Dec 5, 2011 路 Wisconsin. Dec 4, 2011. #7. Mobil 1 in the 0W-xx weights is now marketed (at least in the US) as AFE (Advanced Fuel Economy). Between their 5W-20 and 0W-20, they are rated the same when warm (the "20") and the 0W is not as thick when cold (which is a good thing). The 0W-xx oils require higher quality base stocks than the 5W-xx oils.
Oct 15, 2019 路 Hey all, I have a 2013 Crosstrek and the low oil light came on today. I have a super small leak and need to top it off every few months between oil changes. I only had 0W40 and added about a quarter of a quart to the car. I did not realize it was 0W40 until after the fact. 0W20 is the suggested oil and what I normally use.
Feb 24, 2021 路 The hot viscosity (100 degrees C) for the 0W20 is between 5.6 and 9.3 centistokes, and the 0W30 is between 9.3 and 12.5. And from all the research I've done, it appears that from a mechanical engineering standpoint, motor oil viscosity of about 10 or 11 cSt is ideal for the vast majority of automotive engines. -for at least the last 40 or 50 years.
Oct 29, 2021 路 Can I use 0w30 instead of 0w20? Essentially 0w-30 does not protect your engine nearly as well as 0w-20 but is ideal for more extreme temperatures (temperatures of over 400掳F). According to stikkitnow: While the 0w30 motor oil promises to protect your engine from tear, the 0w20 motor oil does this in a more outstanding and dramatic way.
Jan 31, 2018 路 BMW wants me to use 0W20 or 0W30 as per the manual. They then list other options that are ok up to 1 liter each. I live in Az. and my location can get fairly cold in winter and into the low 100's in summer . I've seen single digits a few times but the norm is 15 to 30 at night. The X1 is kept in my garage that never gets below 40 degrees.
Nov 28, 2016 路 It's a gas milage thing only. All spacings are the same. If a manufacturer wants to use an oil for EPA mpg testing which is heavy on short trips (so thin oils make a difference!) they MUST issue that oil as the preferred grade. I even used to have the EPA letter that states this exact thing. All these engines that are 0w-20 etc in USA are 5w-30
Apr 5, 2013 路 With regards to my choice of words, let me amend them, 0W20 is not a usual spec. of oil or readily available as 0W30/5W30. If Toyota GB supported the use of 0W20 then they would mandate its use by their Dealers, they don't hence 0W20 isn't mainstream.
Jan 27, 2013 路 The 2014 truck engines have been completely redesigned. I am sure the main reason is fuel economy though. Ford and Toyota have been using the 5W-20 and 0W-20 oils for several years now with no adverse effects.
Oct 14, 2022 路 BMW now recommends 0W30 for all models that called for a LL-01 5W30. Can I use 0w30 instead of 5w30 in BMW? 0w30 and 5w30 are the exact same viscosity at operating temperature. 0W30 would cover a wider range than 5W30. Better than driving a quart low. You鈥檒l be fine. Why did BMW switch to 0w30?
Jan 8, 2008 路 The Prius in the EU is every 12 months or 10,000 miles I would like to see Toyota deny a warranty claim because a driver ran a 0W-30, or 0W-20 for that matter, instead of 5W-30. Plenty of dealership and qwikee loob places use bulk lube systems filled with crap no-name oil that are contaminated.
Apr 8, 2019 路 Again, not saying you are wrong in general. I'm saying/said that the JL sensor's will not know you are running either 0w20 or 5w20. Again, we care specifically talking 0w20 or 5w20 as this thread is talking 0w20 or 5w20. Yes, if incorrect info is posted, I do speak up..
Also, the owners manual does state you can use 5w if needed. I use 5w-30 because it reduced my oil consumption from a quart low to .25 quarts low between oil changes. Like someone else said, they recommend 5w-30 in the Japanese Crosstreks. I'm looking at the Subaru manual for the 18+ 2.0 and it lists different types of 0w20, 0w30, 5w30, and
Nov 21, 2021 路 The recommended motor oil for Nissan vehicles is 5w30 and 10w30. So you can use both of these oils for your Nissan engines. You can still refer to your owner鈥檚 manual for the specific motor oil, but you can interchange them if you want. 5w30 vs 10w30 Subaru. The recommended motor oil for all Subaru engines is 0w20 and 5w30.
Nov 15, 2021 路 The answer is yes. This means that if you want to, then you can mix 0w20 oil to 0w30 oil. As a car driver, you must know that motor oil is used as a lubricant. This motor oil is used for internal combustion engines found in lawnmowers, motorcycles, powering cars, and another list of machines; how an engine works is accompanied by moving parts
