Read the drizzt series pretty much through high school. It's great for mass amount of content and for setting a pretty good bar for fantasy. Drizzt begins to get stale himself but I love almost every other character by Salvatore, especially entreri, drizzts' arch nemesis, he also has a wonderful side trilogy for him I might add.

Also, Drizzt wears the silk shirt under his armor, its just a torso slot item that grants DR or fortification. EDIT: Over a year ago, I found a site where somebody gave all the drizzt characters stats that were actually accurate. I have no idea where that is, though.
The Drizzt series was my first real introduction to fantasy literature. Haven't read Dragonlance so I can't exactly compare it, but personally, I enjoyed the series. That said, I found the writing in the Dark Elf Trilogy a big improvement from that of Icewind Dale. Not to say that the Icewind Dale Trilogy isn't worth reading though.
